Community-Driven Tools That Create Change
Rapid Assessment and Response (RAR)
SYR uses a modified version of the Rapid Assessment and Action method—originally developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and adapted in Norway by KORUS Bergen and Bergen Municipality.
Locally, it’s known as the HKH method and is used to quickly assess urgent social issues affecting youth, such as violence, addiction, and marginalization.
Conversations With Children
We hold guided group conversations with children and youth to explore sensitive topics such as: .
Violence at home or in the community
Substance use and peer pressure
Mental health struggles

Conversations With Parents
Youth wellbeing is deeply connected to family support. We organize parent guidance sessions for those experiencing challenges related to:
Youth substance use or risky behavior
Cultural misunderstandings
Communication breakdowns within families
Why Our Methods Matter
SYR’s tools are built on years of community work, global health research, and direct input from Somali youth and families. They reflect our commitment to:
- Listening first
- Respecting culture
- Acting on what we learn
